Does Chillax help with ADHD or anxiety?
OLLY doesn't market Chillax specifically for ADHD. It's positioned as a calming gummy for everyday stress.
The ingredients:
Magnesium (30 mg):
Low dose and mostly oxide which doesn't absorb well. Might take the edge off for some kids but the dose is too low to expect much.
L-theanine (50 mg):
An amino acid that promotes relaxation without drowsiness. The main kids' trial used 400 mg per day for sleep. At 50 mg the effect is likely subtle if anything.
Lemon balm (50 mg):
A traditional calming herb. Very little research in kids. In adults some trials show mild anxiety reduction. The dose here is low.
Bottom line:
Chillax might help a child feel slightly calmer before a test or a stressful event. It's not going to fix ADHD symptoms or replace daily behavior support. Think of it as a gentle nudge not a treatment.
What age is Chillax for?
The current label says 7+. Older packages said 4+.
OLLY changed the age recommendation sometime in the past year or two. If you bought Chillax a while ago your bottle might say 4+. Newer bottles say 7+.
We don't know why they changed it. The formula appears to be the same. Possible reasons: updated safety review or regulatory feedback. OLLY hasn't publicly explained the change.
If your child is 4-6 check with your pediatrician before using it.
Chillax vs OLLY Kids Sleep: what's the difference?
OLLY makes two similar products:
OLLY Kids Sleep (with melatonin):
Contains 0.5 mg melatonin plus L-theanine and lemon balm. For bedtime. Helps kids fall asleep.
OLLY Kids Chillax (no melatonin):
Contains magnesium plus L-theanine and lemon balm. For daytime stress. Does not help with sleep directly.
If your child has trouble falling asleep Chillax won't fix it. You'd need the melatonin version. For more on melatonin safety see our melatonin guide.
Is Chillax daily or as needed?
As needed. The label says "take 2 gummies as needed."
This is different from Mighty Minds which you give every morning regardless of whether your child has a stressful day ahead.
"As needed" products are useful for:
- Test days
- Doctor or dentist appointments
- Travel or new situations
- Big social events
They're not designed to build long-term improvement. If your child needs help staying calm and focused every day you need a daily supplement not an as-needed one.
How is Mighty Minds different?
Mighty Minds is a daily gummy designed to support steady focus and emotional regulation over time. You don't give it only on hard days. You give it every day and the benefits build.
The main ingredient is saffron which has been studied head-to-head against Ritalin in kids with ADHD. In that 2019 trial both worked equally well but saffron had far fewer side effects (13% vs 78%).
Mighty Minds also includes:
GABA (15 mg):
A neurotransmitter that supports calm without sedation.
Magnesium glycinate (100 mg):
A higher dose than Chillax and in a better-absorbed form. Supports nervous system function.
MCT oil (200 mg):
Healthy fats that enhance absorption of fat-soluble compounds including saffron.
Most parents see changes in 2-4 weeks. Some notice subtle improvements in the first week. The effect is sustained as long as you keep giving it daily.
For the full research breakdown see our saffron for kids guide.
Which one should I try?
Choose OLLY Kids Chillax if:
- Your child is generally fine but gets anxious before specific events (tests, performances, new situations)
- You want something cheap and widely available to keep on hand
- Your child is 7+ and you just need a gentle calming option occasionally
Choose Mighty Minds if:
- Your child has ongoing focus or emotional regulation issues (homework battles, meltdowns, impulsivity)
- You're trying to avoid or reduce ADHD medication
- You want something with clinical research backing it (saffron vs Ritalin trial)
- You're willing to give it 3-4 weeks to see results
Can you use both?
Technically yes. There are no interactions between the ingredients. Some parents give Mighty Minds every morning and keep Chillax on hand for extra-stressful days. But most families find that if Mighty Minds is working they don't need Chillax.

The bottom line
OLLY Kids Chillax is an as-needed calming gummy with low doses of magnesium, L-theanine and lemon balm. It's fine for occasional stress but it's not designed to fix ongoing ADHD symptoms or emotional dysregulation.
Mighty Minds is a daily gummy with clinical-strength saffron (studied against Ritalin), GABA and magnesium glycinate. It's designed to build steady focus and emotional regulation over 2-4 weeks.
If your child needs help staying calm once in a while Chillax works. If your child struggles daily with focus, meltdowns or impulsivity Mighty Minds has stronger evidence and is designed for daily use.
You've got 60 days to try Mighty Minds risk-free. If it doesn't help we'll refund you.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. It doesn't contain melatonin or sleep-specific ingredients. If your child has trouble falling asleep you'd need OLLY Kids Sleep (which has melatonin) or see our melatonin guide for other options.
Yes. No interactions between the ingredients. Some parents give Mighty Minds in the morning and Chillax before a stressful event later in the day.
It's meant to work within 30-60 minutes of taking it. If you don't notice anything within an hour or two it's probably not strong enough for your child's needs.
We don't know. OLLY hasn't publicly explained the change. The formula appears to be the same. If your child is under 7 talk to your pediatrician before using it.
The ingredients (magnesium, L-theanine, lemon balm) don't interact with ADHD stimulants. But always tell your child's doctor about every supplement they're taking.
